Module Brief: to develop a casual Rube Goldberg Machine sandbox style game for android devices, targeted at teens to adults, to complement the University of St Andrew’s community outreach programme.

I worked on this project as one of two programmers in a multi-disciplinary team of seven students, which also included one artist and 4 game design production students.  Due to Covid restrictions, we researched, planned and executed our project remotely, emulating the situation in many workplaces.

As a programmer, I produced the player controls, the placement controls for the objects and the objects themselves. I co-ordinated the GitHub merges and repository and delivered the prototype and final builds.

I also worked closely with other team members in areas such as modelling shaders, UI and audio to ensure that the game came together as a cohesive final product.

Feedback from Abertay University Assessor included the following;

“This is a very good submission, Roald. It evidences an excellent understanding of your discipline and provides extensive evidence of applied practice. It also demonstrates an excellent ability to carry out development tasks in response to a brief.

From your own submission and that of your teammates it’s clear that you made a pivotal contribution to the success of the project. I think that your technical skills are excellent and your commitment to the project cannot be faulted.

Your submission evidences a high level of professional practice and skill and as mentioned your contribution was key to the project’s success. I think you should be proud of your work this term and look forward to seeing what you achieve in your career once you graduate.”
