Arkcarmic Descent

Module Brief: Working in a multidisciplinary team with Masters students from across the Games Academy to design, implement and pitch a game prototype.

The team consisted of a game designer, two 3d artists, a 2d artist and myself acting as lead Programmer/Animator.

Over the course of 6 weeks, the team worked to develop a vertical slice of an action adventure game, inspired by late 90's early 2000's immersive sims such as Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

As the gameplay programmer, I created the player movement and combat system, the AI behaviour and integrated the prototype mechanics created by our designer into the main system. As the team was lacking an animator, I also create the animations for the player and enemies.

Given the small team size I worked closely with all of the other team members in order to ensure that the game came together as a cohesive final product.

Despite the limited time frame, the team worked well together and created "A strikingly ambitious demo with a powerful focus on immersive sim mechanics ... This is a very good vertical slice of an immersive sim, which has the potential to be truly excellent" as evaluated by Falmouth University.
